Thanksgiving & Christmas Double Punch of Sinus Infections

Posted on

During the months of September, October and November we each piled up approximately 75k airline miles on domestic and international travel attending trade shows, customer meetings and internal company events. In between trips we were unpacking boxes, organize closets and furnishing to turn our new condo into our new home and prepare for hosting family over Thanksgiving.

But, the weekend before Thanksgiving the usual morning stuffiness stayed all day and progressed into a headache and sinus pressure. By Wednesday, a mild fever and a greenish, bloody nasal discharge started. The doctor diagnosed another sinus infection and back on antibiotics, rest and fluids I was!

The antibiotics helped clear up the sinus pressure and fever but the drippy nose, postnasal drip and fatigue continued. The week before Christmas the sinus pressure increased again, along with the greenish, bloody nasal discharge and I was back on a different antibiotics. Four sinus infection in one year was definitely a new record for me!

While I was battling sinus infections Dani was so fatigued and was tested for Lyme disease and Epstein-Barr virus (mononucleosis). Her Lyme disease test came back overall negative (though she did have some positive results that didn’t meet the criteria of overall positive) but her Epstein-Barr antibody test came back showing a current infection. Also, her deep dry cough not only came back but was intensifying and eventually developed into full-blown bronchitis in early 2016, with prescriptions for prednisone and cefdinir placed.

The worst realization at this point was we were going through this again despite leaving our mold infested beach condo, moving into a new environment and starting allergy shots. It was really frustrating as it seemed to be a meritless, endless battle.
